It is the early post-war period in Italy, and in a small seaside village called Scassacocchi, the community is shocked by a tragic event. An old fishing boat sinks, hit by an old naval mine.
As the townspeople gather to hear the testimony of the lucky surviving crew, a mysterious knight named "Orlando" appears, claiming to be a terrible sea monster. Obviously, to all present, this character appears surreal, grotesque, insane, to say the least. But not to young Ninuccia. Fascinated by the bizarre knight's words and theories, she decides to follow him.
